Fine. But why separate? Well,
AJ was founded 19 years after the main
structure. The main building was already a
separate piece of land for the institute.
Strength of the college:
Mithibai has about 10,000 students in all, the
only college in India to admit such a massive
crowd, and considering the size of the institute
and the number of students who wanna get in,
principal Rupa Shah can easily admit a few
double digits more. "But that would do injustice
to the students and their studies," she
explains.
Wow! An already over-burdened
management, eh? Yeah! Probably, that's exactly
why Mithibai's the sole institute to have as
many as five vice-principals and three junior
college supervisors at a time.
Any other salient features?
Well, Mithibai and N M are the only colleges to
share a common canteen, and that too, one of the
largest around. The food's quite famous for its
taste and variety. But mind you, entry is
restricted to Mithibaities and NM'iites only.
Why a common canteen?
Initially, Mithibai had a small room within
their main premises itself, but it was too small
to squeeze in the entire rush. N M on the other
hand was looking out for a spacious canteen too.
Meanwhile, there was this huge idle space
between the two which just attached the two
structures. Hence, the decision was taken.
Today, the old canteen of Mithibai has been
converted into one of the best labs around.
That's smart! But, are the two
college related in any way? Yes, the two come
from the same trust, Kelvani Mandal. In fact,
even NMIMS belongs to the same trust.
So, does that benefit the
college in any way? Mithibai is the only college
with two libraries, one for the main wing, while
the other's for the commerce wing. This itself
speaks for the vast volume of books and journals
available in these libraries.
Any big names from here?
The list is endless. Raveena Tandon, Urmila
Matondkar, Sudha Chandran, Jatin-Lalit's Lalit
and many more. In fact, the only three models to
reach the Miss Universe finals before Sushmita
Sen - Namrata Shirodkar, Priyadarshini and Madhu
Sapre - have all been a pride of this college.
